Rural Spanish house with rainwater collection
A small, traditional 120 square metre house on two levels is topping out as the year comes to an end. It has a living room, kitchen, WC and utility at ground level and 3 bedrooms (one en-suite), and shower room on the first floor. To the rear, and overlooking the pool, there will be a porch with a timber structure. We are designing a barbecue with carport and storage area to further enclose the pool area behind the building.
This is being built to a modest budget in another rural location, with electricity connection costs being shared with a neighbour who will use the same transformer to supply his farm. Water supply is to be mainly sourced from collected rainwater, treated with UV before passing from the 20,000 litre deposit to the house. To fill the 8x4m swimming pool there will be an annual visit from a tanker, however.
We will be installing underfloor heating and an electric heat pump system as well as the obligatory solar hot water panels. The photos show work in progress which began in September – the whole insulated external envelope has gone up in less than 4 months. We look forward to continuing and completing this build in 2012.
